From this blurb at Talking Points Memo about Rove’s column on Obama, I couldn’t tell whether Rove was really talking about Obama or a flashback to C. Thomas Howell’s character in the movie Soul Man.
I’m probably not going to stun you by telling you that Karl Rove is using racial code words. But as long as we’re talking about Andrew Cuomo’s decision to stick his foot so far into his mouth that it’s coming out of his behind, you really must read Karl Rove’s piece on New Hampshire in today’s Journal oped page.
I’ll just pick out the highlights, but in the course of a single column Rove manages to flag Obama’s “trash talking”, “his days playing pickup basketball at Harvard”, and the alleged fact that “he is often lazy.”
Craig says
heh. yup, good ol’ karl, warning the dems about the dangers of voting for someone else other than clinton. i wonder why he’s being so helpful?
Buzzcut says
You guys are sensitive. Racial code words? Give me a break.
Rove is right about Obama. He talks about coming together and cumbaya crap, but can’t list one time that he personally compromised his position to get things done with Republicans.
And he bought a house from Tony Rezko. The man is not as pure as you think he is.
T says
I don’t know who Tony Rezko is. I do know what Karl Rove is trying to do when he talks about the black candidate being a lazy trash-talking basketball player. He’s saying, “But people…. he’s BLACK!!!”
Or I could give Karl the benefit of the doubt. That would be Karl the traitor, who revealed the name of a CIA operative. And Karl the guy who used to put out fliers attacking his own candidate, making it look like the other guy did it. Yeah, maybe this scum doesn’t know any black stereotypes and just accidentally put three of them in one opinion piece totally out of innocent ignorance. He probably hasn’t heard the ones about watermelon, greens, or menthol cigarettes, either, and would have been just as innocent had he thrown those in, too.
Poor misunderstood Karl.
Doug says
Particularly here, where he’s just trying to give the poor old Democrats some friendly advice out of the kindness of his heart.
Hm... says
I still say the hardest tickets to beat would be McCain-Huckabee and Obama-?
Buzzcut says
I think that Rove’s advice to Obama was pretty good. I also think that, like John Kerry before him, Democrats like Obama partially because they think that he is the most “winnable” candidate. But like Kerry, there are negative aspects to Obama that Democrats don’t see, but that Republicans will pick apart in the general election.
Like buying a house from a man indicted for political corruption in Illinois.
In the end, I think that Obama is a waaaaay better candidate than Hillary. Likability is much higher for Obama.
Oh, and calling Obama a “lazy, trash talking baskeball player” isn’t racist, because Obama isn’t black. ;)
