Sen. Kruse is engaged in a bit of culture war nonsense with SB 131 which mandates that each school classroom and library display a framed picture or durable poster with “In God We Trust” and the U.S. and Indiana flags. The poster has to be 11″ x 17″, the “In God We Trust” has to be at least 4″ x 15″ and the flags each have to be at least 5″ x 5″. No funds are appropriated for this expense.
This is bush league stuff. We’ve got real problems.

Another unfunded mandate for nonsense. Crazy stuff. Won’t somebody please vote this guy out?
Mike says
Look at the makeup of Kruse’s district then try to find someone who actually has a snowball’s chance at unseating him.

i couldn’t agree more.
Doug Masson says
The specificity and micromanagement of the dimensions really adds a *chef’s kiss* to the whole bill. I’m reminded of the Monty Python bit about the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch:

The main reason I read through this post was to figure out what the National Motto is, and why a State Legislator cared that it be posted in a classroom.
PS – Loved the comparison to Monty Python.

“In God We Trust.” All others must submit a credit application and a personal guaranty.
19th-Century Radical (@reynoldsweekly) says
How about a poster with all of that? “In God We Trust; All Others Must Submit a Credit Application and a Personal Guaranty.” The bill doesn’t specify that ONLY the motto be on the poster.

Except for Fort Wayne city government, which generally works in a bipartisan way to do the peoples business, northeast Indiana is yellow dog republican territory. Occasionally, a Democrat will win office in a city election, but that is a one-off. It is rural Alabama.
Stuart says
The people in Kruse’s district must have needs for some constructive legislation. Surely they don’t live in the best of all possible worlds and only advocate culture wars legislation/
Carlito Brigante says
Some of his constituents live in Waterloo and Butler. Butler’s boasts of its hometown boy, Jeff Berry, former president of the Ku Klux Klan. FWIW, when researching Kruse’s Senate DIstrict, I saw that the Indiana Senate has 40 republicans and 10 Democrats.
AJ Johnston says
If they went back to E Pluribus Unum… then I’d agree. The evangelicals have ruined God for most of America.
