Golf cart regulation is something that seems to spend an inordinate time in the news (usually small newspapers), but I can never quite bring myself to pay attention. The same will likely be true for me of SB 2, introduced by Senator Holdman.
It allows counties to adopt ordinances concerning golf carts — current law specifies only cities and towns. It also allows the county to provide for golf carts crossing state highways so long as both sides of the state highway is county jurisdiction. Oddly, cities and towns are not given similar dispensation.

In New Harmony, golf carts abound on the streets. The town is compact enough that travel by golf carts makes sense. Why drive a gas guzzler to a convenience store five blocks away? The carts are registered by the city. I was told that golf-cart drivers couldn’t travel the state highway that intersected the town, though I found this rule frequently ignored.
