I can’t say I have a real position on SB 2, but it passed the Senate 34 to 13 and will move to the House. It requires that elected school board members (they’re appointed in some school districts) be elected at a general election. The Republicans seem to like it a lot, and the Democrats seem to dislike it quite a bit. So there must be some angle I don’t know about.

I recommend you read this article in the Atlantic Monthly* for some deep insights into school boards.
Having SB races during general elections increases accountability. I can’t say whether that is the foundation for Democratic opposition.

Maybe the Republicans have more mindless sheep who pull the straight-ticket lever, whereas Democratic voters are more independently minded, and both parties know this. ;-)

That isn’t what the statistics for most of Central Indiana show. Go to the SOS website for the few elections where they show straight-ticket stats. As a percentage of votes received, Democratic candidates receive far more straight-ticket votes.

Mike Kole,
Props for trying to find data, but given the party affiliation of the current SoS, doesn’t the fact that there only a “few elections where they show straight-ticket stats” make your selection-bias spidey sense tingle?
