Introduced Version, Senate Bill 0231 – Kindergarten Enrollment. This bill would bump up the kindergarten enrollment age from kids who turn 5 on July 1st of the year to August 1st of the year for the school year beginning in 2006 then to Sept. 1st for the school year beginning in 2007.
I can’t say I’ve been following this, but it seems like they are always tinkering with this date, ranging from July through September, maybe up to October. My guess is that it doesn’t matter very much what date you pick through that range but moving it around probably doesn’t help anything. No matter which date you pick, some kids are going to be included who really ought to wait awhile and some kids are going to be left out who are ready to get started.
