SB 57 concerning sign language interpreters in schools passed the House on a 97 – 0 vote and was returned to the Senate without amendments. It requires the Advisory Board of the Division of Professional Standards of the Department of Education to set standards for sign language interpreters who provide services to children with disabilities in an educational setting and an enforcement mechanism for the interpreter standards.
Ah, sweet, sweet bureaucracy.

I don’t quite understand the snark – surely you don’t think that schools should be able to hire just anyone who shows up and says that they can interpret?
eclecticvibe says
Bureaucracy = an efficient hierarchical form of management right?
Parker says
Actually, PeterW, I do think the schools should be able to do just that.
Then again, I don’t think the U.S. Congress should decide how much water my toilet can use per flush, so what do I know?
