The contenders for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination appear to be evenly matched.
The poll commissioned by WSBT-TV in South Bend, the South Bend Tribune, WISH-TV in Indianapolis and WANE-TV shows that of 400 likely Democratic primary voters, 42 percent would vote for Long Thompson and 41 percent would favor Schellinger if the election were taking place today. That is within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
The poll found that 17 percent were undecided.
Thomas at Blue Indiana is reporting this as a Schellinger surge. That’s fair game since Long Thompson was talking up a poll showing her with a 26 point advantage. I think the reality of the matter is that the earlier poll wasn’t terribly reliable.
I don’t think either of them has very good name recognition throughout the stated, and both probably need to squeeze in as much campaigning as they can between now and April 22. After that, the Presidential candidates will be finished with Pennsylvania and then I suspect their message will swamp the airwaves and consume the attention of the electorate. I doubt either Schellinger or Long Thompson will be able to be heard above the din.
Kenn Gividen says
Schellinger has become wealthy as the state’s leading promoter of excessive government school construction projects. After years of gouging Indiana property owners with opprobrium taxes stemming from touting these projects, it’s surprising that Schellinger even registers on poll of serious voters.
Why are people so vulnerable?
They send million of dollars to support the lavish life-styles of millionaire televangelists and vow their support for the very man who is abusing them taxually.

Kenn Gividen lecturing on someone registering with the voters in a gubernatorial race.
Hilarious.
Mike Kole says
Thomas- Kenn collected more votes than you did, so perhaps he has more credibility than you.

So, Doug, I saw both of these candidates last night speak at Stonewall Dems and I am even more confused as to whom to back. I am not sure I can tell a lot of difference between them. Except one is obviously backed by the party hierarchy and the other has been around in minor political circles.
What’s your assessment?
BTW, saw Jen Wagner last night and she was very complimentary about you and your work on here. And that baby of hers is cute as hell… knew exactly when to get quiet during the speeches. GO DEMS!
Doug says
I’m with you Hoosier. I’m up in the air right now.
Glad to hear that Jen is training her offspring to have the same keen political sense she has.

Getting votes as “generic Libertarian candidate” isn’t exactly the most difficult thing in the world.
Jen’s baby is cute.
The Democratic gubernatorial race is going to get ugly in the next week or so, I fear. JLT has been testing the “Jim Schellinger = Tax lover” meme for a few weeks now, and her response to Shella after their poll release tells me that they’re ready to roll it out.
I’m not sure how far they’re going to get attacking a Hoosier business, but nothing would surprise me at this point.
