My favorite time of year on this blog is generally late December and early January when the new bills are released. Over the years, Sen. Steele has typically been one of the lawmakers who releases his bills the earliest. Consequently, I have spent an inordinate amount of time writing about bills he has introduced. So, even though I was frequently skeptical of his bill proposals, I am somewhat sad to hear that he will not run for re-election in 2016. Per the AP:
Republican state Sen. Brent Steele of Bedford told The Times-Mail on Tuesday that he wants to devote more time to his family and grandchildren and to his law practice. Steele will turn 68 next month.
Steele served in the Indiana House from 1994 to 2002 before being appointed to the state Senate to fill the seat vacated when Becky Skillman was tabbed to be the running mate for former Gov. Mitch Daniels.
