Over on BlueSky, I was asked for my thoughts on HB 1008 concerning “Indiana-Illinois boundary commission.” So, just for the record, I responded that I think “it’s just shit-stirring nonsense. Something to distract us rubes while our pocket is getting picked.”
The conceit is that the big-bad (presumably less American) meanies in Chicago are mistreating the Real Americans in down-state Illinois. So we should welcome them into Indiana where we also have real Americans inasmuch as we are less corrupted and blinded to the Truth by city living. I don’t know how much of this, if any of it, has been said explicitly, but that’s the subtext.
The legislation says that the boundary commission consists of five members appointed by the Governor of Illinois. The commission starts meeting 60 days after the Governor of Illinois appoints its members which should be approximately the 5th of Never.
But, the bill has already served its purpose. I’m writing about it. It’s made headlines. I’ve already heard more about it than, say, HB 1002 which is a 138 page piece of legislation dealing with education. God knows what kind of school-eroding bullshit lurks within.

We all know that “Chicago” is a euphemism for “Black”. As stupid as this is, I’d kind of love it so that the Cook County taxpayers can subsidize the rural counties a little less. If they’re going to FA, they might as well FO.
