West and south central Indiana is getting hit hard with flooding. News reports have I-70 west of Cloverdale and I-65 near mile marker 80 closed. Dams are close to failing in the Prince’s Lake area near Nineveh, about 30 miles south of Indianapolis. The Lake Lemon area is also reportedly in bad shape. Good luck out there.
Update Tom Murphy, for the Associated Press, has a fairly comprehensive update on the flooding. The governor has declared a state of emergency in Brown, Clay, Greene, Johnson, Monroe, Morgan, Owen, Shelby, Vermillion and Vigo counties. No injuries or deaths have been reported, fortunately, but the property damage is likely to be extensive.

I live in northern Johnson County, and it’s been a mess. Sump pumps have been going up in smoke all day long.

Up here in Lake County, we just missed being hit by tornados that hit the south suburbs of Chicago late this afternoon. As I was leaving church at about 7:15 this evening, I saw a wall cloud to the north and west of the church. Guess the police actually stopped by (they saw all the cars in the parking lot for church) and warned one of the members to tell us that tornados were in the area.
I had an outdoor wedding in Michigan City today. Last night, for the rehearsal, the storms ended an hour before we started. And the weather held off for the wedding today; it was actually nice and sunny-if not a bit hot and humid.
They’re calling for more storms tomorrow up here.

Columbus, Indiana got the worst flood in recorded history.
However, I’m not sure if that measures how much water we REALLY had, or if the level of the river is made higher than it was in 1913 by how many levees we have now.
I need to look at NOAA’s measurement of cubic feet of water to really compare them.

I’m finally starting to hear about the news of the flooding in central Indiana. Up here in northwest Indiana the news was all about our tornados. Last night they finally showed a small snippet of what y’all are facing. I know the cleanup will take a long time. The communities of Griffith and Highland were badly flooded two years ago. One of my church members finally got the foundation rebuilt on their house last month; it took that long to find out who was going to pay for what.
