The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette main page is too annoying to visit these days. I log on and immediately get choppy advertising audio piping out of my computer speakers. It’s like some kind of craptacular MySpace page. And that’s unfortunate since the Journal Gazette has traditionally done some of Indiana’s best political reporting (Thanks Niki Kelly!) I still get some of their stories through my RSS subscriptions, but I won’t be going to their site looking for stories until they do something about that push audio advertising strategy.

Just *had* to try the link (like probing a sore tooth – yep, still hurts). Although visual ads are bad enough, audio ads are that next step towards hell. That’s actually the first site where I’ve run into audio ads (and from a traditionally visual media source!). I hope they rethink that tact (and quickly).

Amen!

the JG stinks. the inskeeps are tabloid defamers.
their editors are idiots.
they exploit child labor, and independent contractor laws.
unionize their carriers, boycott their advertisers, and cancel your subscription.
get your global news from AP, CNN, and others.
get your local news from the news sentinel.com
oh- and turn down the volume on your speakers; and listen to your i-pod instead.
that’ll fix the libelers.

The ad was not running today (unless my speakers burned out which is certainly possible).
Karen says
Bad news: it appears that my speakers are, in fact, not working – so the annoying ad may still be there. (But it won’t be annoying me, at least.)
Brenda says
Nope, it’s really gone (thanks for the update). Since I was now able to actually spend time exploring the site, I sent an email to their VP of Information Technology (at the bottom of their About Us page) thanking them for its removal (politely letting them know how appalled and dismayed I was by it).
