There are three recounts coming for the Indiana House of Representatives. Incumbent Democrat Ed Mahern is contesting the election results showing Republican challenger Jonathan Elrod ahead by 7 votes. Democratic challenger Myron Sutton is contesting the election results showing Republican incumbent Don Lehe ahead by 27 votes. And Democratic challenger Larry Hile of Hartford City is contesting the election results showing Republican Timothy Harris ahead by 19 votes.
As the results stand, Democrats hold a 51-49 lead in the House. Their first act was electing Rep. Pat Bauer to be Speaker of the House. The Indiana Barrister notes the election of Sen. David Long to be President pro tem of the Senate and suggests that there could be a battle between conservative senators on one hand, and very conservative senators on the other hand.

You should rephrase that to socially conservative senators vs very socially conservative senators…
They are NOT fiscal conservatives…

Wow, Thanks for the update Doug. I guess this proves no matter which side of the debate you are on, it is really important to vote. Hopefully your vote will be counted!

The conservative v. very conservative labels were the terms used by the Indiana Barrister.

The Marion Chronicle-Tribune has an update on the Harris/HIle recount. The petition for a recount includes an assertion that two Grant County precincts were improperly included in the 31st district by mistake.
“The petition further asserts that the two voting areas – Center Township Precincts 22 and 24 – aren’t included in the state law’s definition of District 31.”
“Further examination of the law, as published online, shows the two precincts aren’t included in any state representative’s district at all.”

Hey Doug– by the way– I appreciate knowing someone is working on the blog-osphere from Lafayette. You have a distinctly home-town and direct way of writing. I expect good things whenever I tune in here.
Keep up the good work.
