March 8 to November 1st was the length of DST this year: the earliest possible beginning and ending. In 2010 we will have the latest beginning and ending of DST: March 14 to November 7.
Doug –for us older folks this is still an hour ahead of time in our youth when we were in the Central Time Zone. Which is where we are on the earth’s split up for time intervals.
I’ve been doing this for 17 years now, and it’s stil no better. I absolutely hate CST because it was dark at 5 pm. It’s only 7 now and feels like it’s at least 9 pm.
I hate, hate, hate it, even after having grown up in NW and SE IN, where we observed (officially and unofficially) DST. It just plain defies logic, which I find unforgivable. It’s also impossible to explain to my dog why she’s getting dinner an hour later than normal. The woeful, sad, starving eyes just about killed me yesterday.
To pick a bone, we’re still 28 minutes off of “God’s Time”.
Still, it is better than 1 hour 28 minutes. :)
I noticed my black lab is still on the other time, though. I normally wake him up, but this morning he was licking my face about 10 minutes before my alarm went of.
He had a “Dude, WTF are you still doing in bed?” look on his face.
LOL Parker. Is there an App for getting rid of the lobbyists and their puppets(Chamber of Commerce,Mitch Daniels,Jackie Walorski etc) who put us in the wrong geographical time zone and screwed up the perfect compromise we had?
Chuckcentral, I agree with the compromise. Having EST or CDT all year was the best solution. I am glad that the sun is rising at a reasonable hour now. It is stupid having the sun rise after 800h in October. Still, those in Evansville and in the NW of the state get the better deal of being on CST, the sun is rising at about 630h. Get rid of those hooligans who put us on this DST and Eastern time mess.
But guys, When we had the compromise people did not know what time it was in Indiana. Now we still have that problem,only it is within Indiana. I live in LaPorte County(centraltime) I had items for sale(cattle) a person from Elkhart County calls wants to come and at the animals ,so we set a time noon on Saturday. Then I remind them that my noon is not the same as your noon. The prospective buyer then starts to argue with me saying”our governor solved that problem years ago” I hung up the phone!
Larry, we’re doing our part having multiple time zones so we don’t have to bother Michigan and Ohio with that issue.
After all, the time zone actually runs through their state, not Indiana. However, we’re known for Hoosier Hospitality, and we’re just being neighborly. Remember that the next time you lose a cattle sale.
Jason, love the idea about ignoring Ohio. Michigan has part of its people on the proper time, CT. Hopefully that governor will wake up and put the rest of the state on it too.

My hatred of DST grows with each passing year. I’ll never get used to it. I’m only 23 and it still doesn’t feel right to my body.
