The Washington Post has an article by Peter Slevin on Indiana’s Daylight Saving Time/Time Zone struggles. I don’t have time to summarize it at the moment, so I’ll merely recommend that you check it out. I will note that it has comments for Central Time heroes Mark Catanzarite, John Gaski, and Mike Lerman. Also, there is a good map in the sidebar.

Thanks for the link to the article. I did not like that the comments on the graphic said that Indiana *already* has a puzzling patchwork of time zones.
Before the Daniels-created mess that we now have, what was so confusing about how things were? Indiana was in two time zones, Central and Eastern. For over half the year, the two time zones were actually on the same time (GMT -5 hours) or CDT/EST. Is that confusing?
I did like the references to 10:00 sunsets and the benefits of having TV shows come on an hour earlier.

I dont actually live in Indiana at this time, but am often there. The best thing Indiana has done from my point of view is get in sync with the rest of the country with DST.For someone coming into the state it was indeed like time was always changing, and that there must be many time zones. Time is for the RESIDENTS primarily, and I can understand that, but many of the comments for one particular time zone or the other pointed out the importance of being in sync with a bordering state.

Lou:
I know I’ve been beating this dead horse, but I live in a city and county that border Ohio. Almost no one here thinks it is important that we be in synch with Ohio all the time. We deal with this every day for most of the year. The people on the other side of the state line deal with it also. The time zone border has to be somewhere, so some state or cluster of counties somewhere is going to be out of synch with its neighbors. Those of us who have had to deal with adding and subtracting one all the time don’t generally have a problem with it.
No offense meant toward you, but being in synch with a bordering state is not necessarily a compelling reason to go on DST.
