Since I’m obviously doing a slacker’s job of keeping up with this blog so far this summer, anything of note on your mind? I just got a charcoal chimney that has been making me pretty happy during this grilling season. I guess it’s hard for me to focus on law and politics outside of work when there is beer, cooked meats, and the great out doors to enjoy.

Brand(s) of beer. Go.
I’ve been a big fan of Flat 12’s Hinchtown Hammer Down.
Doug Masson says
My favorites, in no particular order – Founder’s Fat Bastard Scottish Ale. Three Floyds’ Robert the Bruce Scotch Ale. Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout. Oaken Barrel’s Indiana Amber. Every day beers in my fridge – New Belgium Fat Tire. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Swill when I’m so inclined – Old Milwaukee and Pabst.
Mary says
Swill? Harrumph. Growing up in Milwaukee meant the names of beers were probably also the names of friends’ fathers’ employers. My dad worked for Pabst at one time, in the business end, not the production end. But his favorite brand was Land o’ Lakes, probably because smoking had killed off his taste buds. However, one memory I have is not connected with that brand, but with Schlitz, “the beer that made MIlwaukee famous.”

We used to go out to the Uihlein Farm (the Uihlein brothers were the owners of the Schiltz Brewery at that time or before) to watch polo games (this was in the ’70s). The public was allowed to sit in the grass at the edge of the field and picnic while the ponies thundered by. I don’t remember if they sold beer at the matches or not but if not, I’m sure we carried it in. It was fun. My, how beer times have changed.

I have to admit I’m a fan of the re-launched Schlitz. Need to bring a 12 pack back to Indiana when I head to Wisconsin here in a few weeks.

A friend of mine owns part of Sun King. Given your rightful position as a taste-maker in the legal community, perhaps Sun King would like to send a little graft your way?
I kid, I kid, I could never get him to give ME free beer, let alone anyone else. I’m just saying, like one of these talk show hosts, getting secret graft may be a way to go.
Doug says
Ha! Sun King is awfully good. My brother gave me a growler on my 40th birthday.
Doug says
Michael Bradley was just awful against Portugal. Totally gave away the ball at midfield that let Portugal score the tying goal. Was watching with some friends, we were cringing the entire last half when the ball would clang off of his lead foot periodically. Oh well, it will make the Group’s round 3 very interesting.
Bradley says
Michael Bradley definitely was awful on that last play, and absolutely terrible in the Ghana game. Here’s hoping he gets it together for Germany!

Can’t anyone find props to give to Renaldo for that amazing pass?
Doug says
It was a very good pass, but we had them beat! The ball just never ever should have gotten to him on that play. Bradley puts a big foot into that ball at midfield and bombs it back into the far corner, Portugal wouldn’t have had the time to get back to our goal.

I can only give props to Rinaldo for perfect hair and a sneer that never ends. It would have been icing on the cake to BEAT THEM, rather than tie.
